Dr. Jessica Scruggs
A native of Macon County, Dr. Jessica Scruggs graduated from NC State Veterinary School in 2014. She has
worked in Macon County and its surrounding counties for 12 years, working with both family pets and
livestock in the local farming community as a mobile veterinarian. Now, Dr. Scruggs provides care in-house to
family pets here at Animal House Veterinary Clinic, while maintaining her large animal patients through her
mobile unit. Dr. Scruggs is the epitome of the phrase “when you have a job you love, you never work a day in
your life.” We are excited to have Dr. Scruggs as a part of our Animal House family as we continue to provide
care to the critters of Macon County.

She graduated from Trimont Christian Academy in 2010, received a college education at Lincoln Memorial University, and earned her BS in Veterinary Medical Technology in 2015. She has always loved animals and known she wanted to work in the veterinary field. Amanda has been with Animal House since the summer of 2015. When she isn’t working, you can find Amanda lost within the pages of a good book.

Stacey Taylor

Born and raised in Swain County, Stacey Taylor has grown up around animals and enjoys helping out with
both our family pet patients as well as some of our larger farm animal patients. She is married to her husband
Caleb with four fur-babies (two dogs and two cats) and is attending App State’s veterinary technology
program starting in Summer 2026.

Barb Abel
Receptionist
Barb has been working in the veterinary field for most of her adult life, with her primary focus being in Reception and Administration. She has been with Animal House since August of 2017 and is dedicated to her role of making clients and their pets feel welcome, connected, and an important part of the Animal House family. Barb has a BA in English (loves to read, loves to write!), and is an avid runner. She especially enjoys running with Dr. Shower’s Labrador Retriever, Nani, on the Little Tennessee River Greenway.

Jessica Henson
Veterinary Assistant
Jessica, a native of Macon County, is our resident “Cat Whisperer.” She started working with Animal House when the practice opened in 2012. She takes pride in her work and has a special interest in surgical/anesthetic monitoring, patient care, and client education. When she isn’t working at the clinic, Jessica is active in her church and enjoys cooking, writing, and spending any free time with her husband, Eric, and their two daughters, four cats, and senior Shepherd-mix, Toby, on their family cattle farm.
